The Union has been named 2017 Star Agency of the Year at the Marketing Society Star Awards in Scotland. The agency, together with sister agency Union Direct, collected 4 Golds, 5 Silvers and 4 Bronzes on the awards night. The event was held at the SWG3 venue in Glasgow, a gathering of over 500 marketing people, both agency and clients. Scottish comedian Susan Calman was the host for the evening.
The agency’s winning clients included Skyscanner, Scottish Government, VisitScotland, Food Standards Scotland, Miller Homes, Caledonian Brewery, Scottish Youth Hostelling and Len’s Self Storage. Union Direct picked up a Silver for its work on Scottish Widows. The awards covered a wide range of categories, spanning the all key marketing disciplines, from advertising and direct marketing, to digital and online marketing and brand development. One of the agency’s young creative teams, Jed Case and Rory Imlach were also named ‘Rising Creative Stars’.
Kyle Hardie, the agency’s Managing Director, commented, “Make no mistake, these awards are extremely competitive. Just to make it to the shortlist is an achievement in itself. For us to do so well is a testament to the hard work of our team, plus the positive partnerships we are able to form with our clients. What is especially pleasing is that we didn’t just win for one or two clients, we won across the spectrum of our client base, which speaks to the breadth and depth of the marketing we are able to offer. Winning Agency of the Year is the icing on the cake, we’re delighted and I’m so proud of our Union team.”
The Marketing Star Awards are organised by the Marketing Society, the UK’s leading body for marketing professionals. The annual event celebrates the best examples of marketing excellence, across five core categories. Judges are drawn from across the industry. Entries are shortlisted for nomination with four to six in each awards category. The final awards are announced at an awards dinner, which alternates between Edinburgh and Glasgow. This year’s awards had a record attendance.
