We are looking for a front-end Web Developer to join the development team at The Union. The position is for a junior to intermediate level developer, and your daily tasks will focus on the front-end development of new and existing websites and digital services. At the Union our developers are expected and encouraged to explore and develop their knowledge and expertise. If your talents and ambitions are for working further down the technology stack or for taking on more design / UX design related challenges this will be encouraged and supported. We are all about learning and developing in the development team here at The Union. 

Please note that the Union development team are currently working to a hybrid model, including combined in-office and working from home. The candidate needs to be able to work and communicate effectively remotely. 

You should be proficient and comfortable working with the following: 

  • Web fundamentals HTML, CSS3 & Javascript 
  • Bootstrap 4, Flex and Grid 
  • Collaborative design tools such as Figma, AdobeXD 

Additional knowledge and good-to-have experience: 

  • Proficiency in interactive and connected Front-end with Javascript/jQuery/AJAX 
  • Knowledge of Page speed optimisations 
  • Develop your own front-end widgets, solutions and polyfills with less reliance on library use
  • Knowledge of Schema.org structured markup
  • Knowledge of semantic HTML structure, aria labeling and accessibility best practice
  • Linux Command-line experience
  • LAMP stack development experience
  • Experience working with Wordpress and Drupal templates and pre-processors

Personal skills and attributes: 

  • Multi-tasking skills, with the ability to pay attention to detail
  • Must be goal and deployment oriented
  • Ability to keep on top of your to-do list and report progress back to project and account managers
