After studying Physics at the University of Edinburgh I started out in Software Development, initially for financial systems then moving on to Apps and Games where I first began working with the web. This led to many years working on front and back-end for high-capacity e-commerce websites helping to develop a deep understanding of web fundamentals and HTTP request and response. 

I joined the Union in 2015 as a Web Developer and was promoted to Technical Lead a couple of years later. In my time at the Union I have worked on a wide and wonderful collection of websites and services, growing the dev team to be champions of best practice, better UX and to genuinely care about accessibility. 

If I had to name two things I enjoy about my job and web development, I would say I am always learning - new technologies, new ways of doing things and new ways of applying technology. I also enjoy building websites and services, however pedestrian the subject matter - which help real people in their work and lives.
