Michael Hart

Creative Director | Union

I studied architecture at Glasgow School of Art, became and practised as an architect, then ended up on the Perrier Panel at the Edinburgh Fringe, wrote some sketches for Smith & Jones then decided to pursue a career in advertising. I always had a short concentration span, so the quickfire nature of the discipline felt like the perfect fit.

What advertising taught me is how to tell a story as succinctly as possible. A story that might provoke, entertain, shock, educate but always, always elicits a response. Whether it’s for small budgets or gargantuan ones (very rarely) the stories we tell transform businesses and change behaviours.

I joined The Union one year after it started. I was promoted to Deputy Creative Director in 2008, then Creative Director in 2012. I joined the Board in 2012 and sit on the Council of Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce.
