For the journey

Traffic Scotland makes our journeys on Scotland’s roads as safe and as smooth as possible by gathering and distributing vital information about the trunk and motorway networks. With access to such vast quantities of intelligence, it is in a unique position to provide a one-stop-shop traffic update service. Our challenge was to design and build a new website that could distil this sea of intelligence and deliver it in the most accessible of formats to road users. Ensuring a website that could be available on demand, in real-time, and to everyone’s needs was a hugely complex task, bringing together realms of technical data from a multitude of sources.

The results for the new website, built over a two-year period, were nothing short of extraordinary, including winning a coveted Silver Award at the 2023 Marketing Society Star Awards.

65% increase in website visits, equating to 1 in 3 of road users

The results have surpassed our expectations. What is most rewarding however, is the knowledge that the site, is now, every minute of every day, making a tangible difference to people’s lives.

Putting information into the hands of roads users can only make our roads a safer place. And what’s more, we have a golden opportunity to educate and inform users on environmentally friendly alternatives to using their cars.
